TV

I think most American knew the TV show "Deal Or No Deal". I watched this show about a month ago. The host is Howie Mandel. This show is a game for win money.This show has a good host and planed real people win real money, that made people felt excite and fun. The show affects people. Many people love to watch it and talking about after they watched. Because of that this show become a part of America popular culture.

Glog

For this project, our team went to Millenrum Park. At there we interviewed five people who sat in the park and recorded their voice first. Then we took some pictures together and took some pictures of view. When we did out Glog, we chose four pictures to represent pop culture. Overall, we corporately finished this project. In my other personal opinion for this go out, I found many American knew pop culture and high culture. They pay attention to the culture in their life, and most of them are nice to answer our questions.This point suprised me.

Technology

There many technology things are importance in my life, such as computer, cell phone, washing machine and rice cooker. I think I cannot live without rice cook. My family and I used to eat rice. I do housework for my family. If I don’t have rice cooker, first, I think I will spent much time to cook rice, second, I cannot stand eat other things to instead rice, third, I also cannot stand I have to spend more money and go out to buy rice every day. Rice cooker also can cook meat, vegetable and soup. Although the rice cooker is cheap, it still plays an important role in my life.

Movies

Many movies talk about “love”. How do you think about a movie through a special love between a thirty- six year old woman and a fifteen boy to represent some thought? This movie called “The Reader”. Hanna(Kate Winslet) and Michael(David Kross) start a relationship. Michael loves Hanna very much. They have a happy life in a summer, but Hanna knows Michael need to go back his life, so she leaves him. A few years later, Michael who is a law school student sees her in a courtroom and Hanna is an interrogee. Because Hanna does not want people know she can’t write so she was condemned for life imprisonment. Michael knows this point, but he does not show to the court. Then Hanna stay in the jail and died there. I think this movie want to express sometimes the dignity is the most important thing in people’s heart and made people think about if the people who face the same problem as Michael, what will they do?

“Slumdog Millionaire “has a common plot for most people’s dream, own a romantic, forever love and become a millionaire at one night. This movie is a good subject matter for teaching everybody. If there is an obstacle thing in front of you, you have to face it actively, such as Jamal. There are many action movies and fiction movies in nowadays, so the theme of this movie gave a new feeling to the audiences. The movie did not use super stars and without business. I think those are the reasons of why it can get award in the Oscars and becomes popular in the world.

Music

I like the pop music the most, such as sad music, romantic music and rock music, and I also like some Chinese national style type music. One of my favorite song is “Good Life”. This song sung by Song Zuying. Song Zuying is a national style type singer in China. National music reflects the people’s life, ideas, feeling, language, history and culture. The whole meaning of this song is about happy life, nice scenery and good future. Most Chinese people hope they can have a good future. I like this song.

Reading

The reading of “A Voice for the Lonely” is impressive for me. At first, author heard a singer Roy Orbison’s death, he reminded his friend, Jon. When they were in high school, a chance and loneliness brought them together. They spent time together, and often listened to the song “Pretty Woman” from Roy Orbison. At that period, they are in transition. Author also talked about Orbison’s music can made them imaged the hope and his music will not be death in their heart. I agree with author opinion. Music has many function, sometimes can made you relax, sometimes change your mood, sometimes record things for you, such as author and Jon’s relationship.

Pop Culture

Pop culture influences me many. I listen to music which is popular for many people. I like to buy clothes which are popular recently. The movies which have well opinion by people that will be the first choice for me to see. I also trend to buy technology things which are pop in the world, such as iPod, computer.

Since I moved here, I changed my though for something, such as I am not amazing about people who hug together when they meet and a couple kiss on the street. I also drink milk often and this I never did in China. Through popular culture class, I have a clearer concept of pop culture in my mind and also let me know more about movie, music, technology, and internet in America.It made me feel I get closer to this society.
